While pregnant with their daughters, Mia Rollins would DJ music to them inside their womb and record their responses with a fetal doppler. Then life got busy, and these recordings remained untouched in Rollins’ archives. Two years later, Rollins and their partner finally made a soundtrack utilizing these heartbeat recordings and other recorded ephemera of early parenthood. The resulting work, Michrochemera (Everywhere Always),  is Rollins newest large-scale audio-visual projection installation, showing for the first time at Make-Do Gallery. 

The installation-made first and foremost for the artist’s daughters- is an immersive lightscape, wrapping visitors in projected fog holograms. The animations use Rollins’ signature photogrammetry animations as well as other archival media from their two pregnancies. 

With Michrochimera, Rollins’ body of work- always a blend of scientific research, experimental physical optics, and personal archival storytelling centered around themes of intergenerational love and aspiration- shifts one generation into themes of parental love, hope and bonds that escape time and space.
